President's Message

I realize how fortunate I was to have navigated those formative years in a time when opportunities for formal education in our field were limited. My path to expertise relied heavily on on-the-job training and night classes from the Insurance Education Association or the Insurance Institute of America. Primitive as it was, classes were in person so it was easy to get to know real live people and learn and share experiences over assignments and case studies. While today’s on-line learning has many advantages, it takes effort to interact with your classmates and get to know them as more than a little face on your computer.

For years, OCRIMS has been committed to enriching the educational experiences of SRMI students through its endowment to CSUF, plus grants, scholarships, participation in events like iWeek and mentorship opportunities. This year, we proudly provided grants to five deserving students to attend RISKWORLD, the annual RIMS conference.

However, our support for SRMI students is most impactful when backed by the collective generosity of our community. I invite you to join us by participating in and sponsoring our upcoming golf tournament on July 18, with proceeds directly benefiting scholarships and educational initiatives. You can also support SRMI's golf tournament on May 1 to further champion the next generation of risk management and insurance professionals.

Together, let's continue to invest in the future of our industry and empower students to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.

Live long and prosper. Sincerely, Diana Rich
