OCRIMS is an organization with a heart. Throughout the year, the Chapter is heavily involved in outreach efforts and community-service projects. Beneficiaries of OCRIMS’ donations/fundraising include the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County, Toys-for-Tots, and the United Way. The assistance to the United Way was an emergency effort in the wake of devastating wildfires throughout Southern California; OCRIMS donated and matched the proceeds from a lunch meeting to help victims of the fires. Also, OCRIMS annually collects canned goods and non-perishable items during the holiday season to help Orange County Food Bank feed thousands of needy families.

Other outreach efforts have included providing onsite assistance to local communities. For instance, OCRIMS, in conjunction with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), canvassed several large residential neighborhoods in the heart of Mission Viejo to distribute information regarding smoke-detector testing and the critical importance of having operational smoke detectors. Many detectors were tested and replaced as necessary. More recent efforts have included assisting the City of Garden Grove with Project Go (Graffiti Off), a daylong event in which OCRIMS volunteers helped remove unsightly graffiti from bridges and retaining walls. Shortly before that activity, OCRIMS supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California by attending the annual 5k Walk for Kids that raises funds for children who are facing life-threatening medical conditions.
